Friendship Bracelets

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Looking for a fun, easy way to encourage girls to get to know each other? Try friendship bracelets. It’s a great way to break the ice, to make new friends and to have a reminder about all of the new friendships.

Materials

  • Pipe cleaners (one for each child)
  • An assortment of pony beads in Girl Scout petal colors (light blue, dark blue, yellow, orange, red, light pink, dark pink, purple, violet, light green, dark green) You’ll need one bead of each color for every girl. (ie If you have 12 girls, 12 of each bead.) Need more colors? Add a flower shaped bead, other colors or double up on existing colors.

Bracelet Prep

  • String the beads onto pipe cleaner by color. (All of the light blue beads on one pipe cleaner. All of the dark blue beads on another pipe cleaner, etc.)
  • When you are finished, you should have one pipe cleaner per girl. Each pipe cleaner should have enough beads to sway with each girl.

Directions

  • Explain what every color of the Girl Scout Law represents. Click here for PDF.
  • Give each one a pipe cleaner.
  • For new troops, tell them to walk up to each girl, introduce herself and exchange a bead.
  • For returning troops, tell them to tell each girl one thing that they like about their friend or something that their friend is good at in exchange for a bead. (Helps Daisies earn Blue Bucket Award as part of Between Earth and Sky Daisy Journey)
  • Once finished, they should have a bracelet with a bead of each color representing the Girl Scout Law.

I left a career in TV news for more time with my two pint-sized blessings and to become a blessing to someone else. It's our messy, beautiful journey.
